English Premier League gameweek round-up

Liverpool versus Everton-
The mersey side derby was full of action and drama like always. Steven Gerrard made a comeback into the Liverpool lineup as a 67th minute substitute, after a long period of time and fans were delighted to witness him getting into his groove after the injury layoff. Rodwell was red-carded in the first half for a clumsy challenge on Suarez. Jagielka brought down Suarez inside the penalty box, but Dirk Kuyt couldn’t score in the subsequent penalty kick. The man advantage of Liverpool helped them to wage attacks on Everton and the efforts finally paid off when Andy Carol opened the scoring for Liverpool. Luis Suarez sealed the victory in the 82nd minutes, slotting one past Tim Howard. The last couple of minutes of the match turned ugly as Everton fans threw plastic bottles and coins at Liverpool players.

Manchester united versus Norwich city-
Result- 2-0 victory for ManU. Nobody expect Norwich city to trouble Manchester united in their own fortress, but Norwich played some good football and didn’t allow ManU to score in the first half. They defended in numbers and didn’t allow Wayne Rooney and Nani any space at all. For the first time this season, united were unable to open up a defense. But in the second half Norwich missed a number of chances of scoring and were punished by Manchester United. Anthony Pilkington was the culprit at two occasions. He rolled his shot wide after getting clean through and another time he hit the post. Anderson headed home the opener and Welbeck scored his third goal for Manchester United in a week.

Chelsea versus Bolton-
Chelsea hammered Bolton 5-1 at the Reebok stadium. The stakes for chelsea winning this one were high but nobody expected such a humiliating scoreline for Bolton Wanderers.  Chelsea started brilliantly as the first half score read 4-0 and it indicated yet another heavy loss for Bolton wanderers, whose fortunes have deserted them since the last few weeks. Veteran midfielder Frank Lampard scored a thumping hat-trick to prove yet again that he is the best central midfielder Chelsea ever had. Sturridge got his name into the scorers list too, scoring a brace.  Boyata pulled one back for bolton, but it was nothing more than consolation. Bolton lie at the very end of the table and the future looks very bleak for Owen Coyle’s team. Chelsea maintained their third position in the league table behind Manchester United and Manchester City.

Arsenal versus Tottenham-
Arsenal’s troubles continue as they lost to Tottenham Hotspurs in the London derby. The match carried a lot of importance as it marked the completion of Arsene wenger’s 15 years as the manager of Arsenal. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp played the strongest possible team he could as the lineup boasted of Defoe, Adebayor, Van der vaart and Luka Modric, who made a return to the lineup after an injury layoff. To the delight of the home fans at white hart lane, Van der vaart scored a brilliant first half goal to set up the match. Aaron Ramsey equalized for the  visitors in the second half. Tottenham pushed hard for a victory and they had the last laugh as Walker scored the winning goal to seal the deal for spurs.
