Borussia M’gladbach vs Bayern Munich: Both teams eager for three points…but for different reasons
Bayern Munich will be aiming to make it three wins in three, while Borussia Moenchengladbach will be hoping to earn their first win when the two sides clash on Saturday. Despite their rocky start, Gladbach are not at the bottom of the table, and rather sit in 12th spot following a draw and a win from their first two games.
A rather unpleasant start under Gerardo Seoane…but this stat may give Gladbach hope
Current Gladbach boss Seoane will be desperate to turn things around as he’s now back in the Bundesliga following his sacking by Bayer Leverkusen. The Swiss tactician was given his pink slip after a horrendous start for die Werkself, who then brought in midfield icon Xabi Alonso to revive their fortunes. Seoane’s first season in charge of Leverkusen did go well, as he led them to a third-placed finish, which was then their strongest showing in over five years. However, his sophomore term did not go as well as planned, and he was fired in October of last season.
Gladbach opened their campaign in entertaining fashion, but it still wasn’t the result fans ideally would have wanted. They ended up scoring four goals against Augsburg, but needed a late penalty to avoid what would have been a disappointing defeat after initially taking a two goal lead in the first 30 minutes.
Still, despite their poor start, Gladbach have done well historically against Bayern Munich. In fact, die Fohlen are unbeaten in their last five games against the Bavarian titans, but are dealing with a massive personnel crisis at the moment. Both Maximilian Wober and Joe Scally are expected miss this match due to bad colds, while Stefan Lainer’s recent cancer diagnosis means that he will be out for the long haul. On the injury front, Hannes Wolf, Christoph Kramer, Fabio Chiarodia, Manu Kone, Luca Netz, and Nico Elvedi are all still on the treatment table, with many of those names not set to be available until after the international break.
Bayern confident of comfortable win after solid start to the season
Bayern may have scraped by to clinch the Bundesliga title last season, but so far, things appear to be going quite well for die Roten. The Bavarian titans ended up spending upwards of $100 million on getting Harry Kane from Tottenham, but the English star has already shown why it was worth for the usually frugal club to splash that kind of cash. Kane is already involved in four of Bayern’s seven goals so far this season (three goals and one assist) and the England ace will be looking definitely to add more to his tally against struggling Gladbach this weekend.
Like their upcoming hosts, Bayern do have several players out injured, including Bouna Sarr, Jamal Musiala, Raphael Guerreiro, Manuel Neuer, and Gabriel Marusic, but despite having failed to win their last five meetings with Gladbach, die Roten do appear to be in good position to end that hoodoo this weekend.
