Italian Serie A gameweek roundup
The following were the important games that took place in the Italian Serie A on 1st and 2nd october-
Udinese versus Bologna-
Udinese beat Bologna by 2 goals to nil to go to the top of the Serie A standings, leaving behind Napoli in the second position.Despite selling stars Alexis Sanchez to Barcelona and Gokhan Inler to Napoli in the summer, Udinese proved they have lost none of the spark that took them to a fourth-placed finish last season and qualification for the Champions League play-offs, where they were beaten by Arsenal.Centre-back Benatia gave Udinese the lead on the 29th minute as he took advantage of a poor clearance by Ferronetti and slotted home the first goal. Udinese captain De Natale was probably the best player on the pitch. He created several brilliant chances throughout the match, but he missed scoring any of them. He was finally rewarded in the 72nd minute when Udinese were awarded a controversial penalty kick for a foul which seemed to be committed outside the box. Nevertheless, De Natale scored from the spot and took the game away from Bologna’s reach.
Benatia 29′, De Natale 72′
Napoli versus Inter Milan-
Napoli beat 10 man inter milan and moved to the top of the table for a while (until Udinese claimed the top position after their win over Bologna). Inter Milan were on the receiving end of some bad refereeing throughout the match. Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi was given marching orders for a second booking, while he gave away a penalty at the end of the first half. From what could be seen from video replays, the foul was committed outside the box. Incidentally, Obi had earned the first yellow card for a legitimate tackle. Napoli’s Marek Hamshik missed the penalty, but Hugo Campagnaro scored in the follow up. Maggio and Hamsik added second half goals to seal victory for Napoli. Goalkeeper Julio Caesar and Javier Janetti were booked for screaming at the referee. With yet another loss, inter-milan are looming just above the dead zone.
AS Roma versus Atlanta-
Roma climbed up to the 6th spot in the table after defeating Atlanta by three goals to nil. Bojan Krkic opened the scoring for Roma, scoring his first goal for the club. Krkic controlled De Rossi’s ball with his chest before slotting the it through the far post. Pavlo Osvaldo scored the second for Roma just ten minutes later. It was the third goal in three matches for the Argentine forward. Atlanta’s G.Dennis pulled one back for his team to bring the competition to some balance. But Fibio Simplicio scored in the 82nd minute to seal a 3-1 victory for AS Roma.
