Fiorentina vs Inter: Nerazzurri to rebound after Coppa Italia loss?

Inter will look to shake off a disappointing result in the Coppa Italia when they travel to face Fiorentina on Friday.

The Nerazzurri will have quite a bit of work to do following their 2-1 defeat to Juventus at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, but they will turn their attention towards temporarily overtaking cross-town opponents AC Milan at the top of the table. Just two points separate the city rivals heading into this upcoming round of fixtures, and with the Rossoneri facing bottom-ranked Crotone on Sunday, Antonio Conte’s men will need to make sure they get things right at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Inter haven’t lost to Fiorentina since April 2017, when the Viola came out on top in a nine-goal thriller. Since then, the Nerazzurri have gone nine games unbeaten across all competitions, and that includes their last seven in Serie A. However, Fiorentina have seemingly gotten their act together since Cesare Prandelli took over, and now sit comfortably in 12th spot. The Tuscan outfit are no strangers to pulling off a major upset, as they notably beat Juventus 3-0 last year to shock the Turin giants and prevent the Bianconeri from breaking into the top three.

That’s not to say that Fiorentina have been immune to bad results. Nearly a month after their 3-0 win over Juve, they were humiliated 6-0 by a rampaging Napoli, and come into this match having failed to pick up all three points against Torino. Fiorentina also were beaten 2-1 by Inter in the Coppa Italia on January 13th and so revenge will be on their minds when the Nerazzurri return to their home base. Despite their frustrating record, Fiorentina have been quite solid at home, and are unbeaten in their last six Serie A matches. Still, they will be facing an opponent who have been excellent in their travels, with just one loss in their last 16 on the road. However, they’ve drawn their recent two road fixtures and failed to fire in a drab stalemate with Udinese in their last away game.
