English champions Manchester City are reportedly preparing a bid for Olympique Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar. According to reports from France, the highly-rated playmaker is a top target for City who has inquired about his services.

It is understood that City boss Pep Guardiola views Aouar as a direct replacement for the departing long-serving midfielder. Aouar is regarded as one of the future talents in Ligue 1 and has been linked to several top clubs in recent transfer windows.

Telefoot claims that City are in contact with Aouar’s representatives and is close to agreeing on personal terms. The only obstacle remains to secure a transfer deal with Lyon.

Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas is known as a tough negotiator and is looking to demand a premium fee for the midfielder despite the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Italian side Juventus have also indicated an interest in the midfielder and it appears to be a two-horse race for the France international. However, Aouar is thought to favor a move to City as he is keen to work with Pep Guardiola.

This transfer is one that could drag all summer due to the current uncertainty regarding the return of first-team football across Europe.
